Our History

The Glenlyon Tweed Mill traces its roots back to 1801 when James Haggart founded the family firm in Acharn. Initially spinning local wool into warm clothing, the business flourished under the leadership of his sons, Peter and James. In 1850, they built a purpose-built mill in Keltneyburn, harnessing the power of the nearby river. This self-sufficient mill produced rugged tweeds that gained royal patronage and served a diverse clientele. Over the years, the mill has adapted and evolved, continuing to create fine, hardy tweeds that are sold nationally and internationally. Today, the Glenlyon Tweed Mill stands as a testament to the enduring art of weaving, ready for its next chapter.
