John Boyd is an enthusiastic photographer and a valued friend of the mill, who has generously shared his work over the past two years during his visits. His images capture not only the character of the mill but also the stories woven into its daily life. With a keen eye for detail and a natural talent for visual storytelling, John’s photography offers a thoughtful and engaging perspective that we are delighted to share.
John’s journey into photography began after a successful international career in the machine tool industry, which took him to Germany and the United States for many years. Upon returning to the UK in 2009, he developed a deeper passion for photography and joined his first photography club. Today, he is an active member of both the Perthshire Photography Society and the Highland Perthshire Photography Group.
His work spans a wide range of photographic genres, though his engineering background continues to influence his particular fascination with mechanical subjects, something clearly reflected in his appreciation for the intricate machinery of the tweed mill. Beyond his own practice, John is deeply committed to supporting others in their photographic journeys, sharing both his knowledge and enthusiasm for the craft. He holds a Licentiateship of the Royal Photographic Society (LRPS) and is currently working towards his Associateship (ARPS), continuing to refine and expand his already impressive body of work.
