Celebrating 175 Years of Glenlyon Tweed Mill
October is a very special month at Glenlyon Tweed Mill, not only because it is The Campaign for Wool’s Wool Month, but it is also the mill's 175th birthday! We have woven incredible tweeds and designed cloths for many Scottish estates over the mill's history, and we are excited for what the next chapter will hold for our historic mill.
Campaign for Wool's Wool Month
The Campaign for Wool's Wool Month aims to raise awareness about the benefits of wool as a natural, renewable fibre. The initiative encourages consumers to appreciate the virtues of wool, advocating for a shift towards more sustainable fashion choices.
This initiative not only supports local mills like Glenlyon but also revitalizes the narrative around traditional craftsmanship, making it relevant in today’s eco-conscious landscape.

Sustainable Wool at Glenlyon
Glenlyon Tweed Mill, known for its rich heritage in producing high-quality tweed using 100% British wool, brings an artisanal touch that emphasises the importance of sustainability in the fashion industry.
Glenlyon Creative Director Vixy Rae says:
"To me, wool represents so much more than just a fabric; it embodies the spirit of sustainability in fashion. As a natural, biodegradable fiber, wool is not only durable and comfortable but also offers a timeless quality that transcends fleeting trends. When sourced responsibly, wool production can be a harmonious balance with nature, supporting ethical farming practices and prioritising animal welfare."

Sustainable fashion is about making conscious choices that respect our planet and its resources. It’s about transparency in the industry—supporting brands that genuinely commit to ethical practices. Wool serves as a perfect example of how we can combine style with sustainability. It’s a versatile material that can be crafted into beautiful garments designed to last, reducing the need for fast fashion.
By embracing sustainable fashion, including the use of wool, we can contribute to a circular economy where our clothing doesn’t just end up as waste. Instead, it can be part of a system that values longevity and recyclability. Together, let’s champion choices that foster a healthier planet for future generations.
